Fish (Anima Woman), 2024
Mosaics made with hand cut mirror tiles, my wisdom tooth, rose given to me by my former partner, sand, cement and pigment on wood. 14x9’’ each

This series is rooted in a recurring dream where I’m swallowed by a fish—an image that speaks to themes of enclosure, surrender, and rebirth. This motif ties into the idea of the "Anima Woman," a term feminist Jungian analyst Marion Woodman used to describe an individual—or an entire culture—whose survival is tethered to the patriarchal spirit. The anima woman absorbs society’s expectations, shaping herself into the ideal mother, wife, daughter, or citizen to ensure her survival.  But within her is the potential for deep transformation, or animation. This marks the return of these external projections to their rightful origins, and creation of a different kind of self and relationship to the internal and external. By embedding objects inside the fish’s belly, I’m enacting a kind of ritual—an offering to its transformative power. It’s a way of recognizing both the limits placed on the anima woman and the agency hidden within her.
